BRIEF TERM PREDICTED, THE ELECTORAL TANGLE. By Telegraph—Frenj Aosociatton—OopyTljhl Melbourne, August 8. Mr. Cook, tho Federal Primo Minister, speaking at Wangaralta, snid that tho present Parliament -would bo a short one, and that tho Ministry, in tho near future, must ask tho peoplo to restore a substantial majority to one side or the other. ■Tho Government, ho added, was hying to straighten out the electoral tangle, so that the next appeal would bo a cue in respect to the opinion of tho electorates. FEDERAL AND STATE BANKS. Melbourne, August 8. Legislation foreshadowed by the Federal Government includes amalgamation of the Federal and State Banks on tho lines suggested at tho last Premiers' Conference.
