RE-OPENING HUTT ROAD.
AFTER THE LANDSLIP, That portion of trio Hutt Road which some eight or nine weeks ago was obliterated pro-tern, by a huge slide of earth, is njow visible, and six 'weeks hence it should once more bo open for traffic. Meanwhile the footpath is proving a substitute for wheeled traffic. There is still a fair quantity of loose spoil to bo shifted, and it is anticipated that its removal will occupy about a week. There is. however, still the danger of another slide, as a large crack runs pairallel with the edge of the cliff. Next week four large Y -shaped dirt shoofa are to be put m on the sloping face of the cliff . l Wh« 1 these are in position workmen will begin operations on the top of the cliff. It is anticipated' that the road will be reopened by the middlo of September.
