EX-DETECTIVE MILLER.

WIFE OBTAINS SEPARATION. , (By T»l«»r»ph,—Preaj AKoelitlon.) Auckland, August 8. At the Polioo Court Mrs. Miller applied for a separation order' against her husband, ex-Detective John P. Miller, alleging habitual cruelty. Tho enso occupied the Court all last Friday, and was adjourned in tho hope that the parties would come to a settlement in. tho meantime. This proved impossible, and Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., to-day granted a separation. Ho said he was satisfied tho cause of the trouble was Miller's excessive drinking. Tho wife had stood by him for a long period of years while he' was a police officer, and had shielded him from his superiors when he was absent from duty as tho result of excessivo drinking. Tho magistrate said he would not express an opinion whether Miller was committed to Roto -Rca. Island rightly or wrongly, but the few months there evidently did him good, as on his own statement he had not touched drink sinctr his return. The assault which _ Miller had recently committed on his wife, together. with his conduct in Court, had satisfied tho magistrate that it was not advisable for Mrs.' Miller to be compelled to cohabit with hpr husband. Miller agreed to pay £1 a week, and a maintenance order'was £0 mode.
