DANCE AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
Their Excellencies the Governor and tho Countess of Liverpool entertained a large number of guests at a danco given last evening at Government House. It had been feared earlier in the day that her Excellency would bo unable to appear in tho evening, owing to a severe cold, but punctually at half-past nino both arrived in tho ballrOcr.l, and took their places in the official set, dancea at the furth'er end of tho room. It was taken part in by his Excellency the Governor and Mrs. Massey, tho Countess of Liverpool and the Prime Minister, Mr. Massey, tho Hon. James Allen and Mrs. Herdman, the Hon. W. Eraser and Mrs. H. D. Bell, the Hon. A. L. Hcrdman and Lady Stout, Sir Eobert Stout and Mrs. Chapman, Sir Joseph Ward and Mrs. Heard, Colonel Heard and Mrs. Pomare. Spring flowers were everywhere to be seen in tho various drawing-rooms and in the dining-room, where supper was set, wore Quantities of wattle and wliito and yellow narcissi, as well a£ white camellias. Another supper-room was screened off from tho corridor, and hero again were white aiid yellow, jonquils and wattle. The dais in tho ballroom was massed with delicately-coloured primulas and with tall palms. Her Excellency wore a gown of dull green figured stain, with sido panels of chiffon, weighted at the ends with gold lace. Tho cream laco which formed ths bodice was bordered with gold, and her ornaments were a diamond ti'ara and necklace. Mrs. Massey was in black velvet, with jet embroidery. Mrs. XI. I). Bell wore a gown of opalts~c«nt fcilk,- draped with grey chiffon, bordered with gold threaded lace, and with beautiful laco draping tho bodice. Mrs. Herdman wore golden brown charmeuso, with cream lace; Mrs. Chapman, roso pink satin, with a deep border of gold flowered brocade, veiled with violet ninon; Lady Stout, grey brocade, with touches of heliotrope satin; Mrs. Poniaro, white satin, veiled with cherry-coloured liinon; Mrs. Heard, pale ■ pink figured satin, drap;d with cream lace.
