In the House of Commons, Sir Edward Grey (Secretary of Stato for Foreign Affairs), in reply to Sir Archibald Williamson (Liberal), said- that the Government had decided that it would not be justified in incurring an expense of .£250,000 in connection with tho San Fran-cisco-Ftmama Exhibition. Tho expense would bo quite out of proportion with commercial advantages. Moreover there was no active desire in commercial centres to participate. in the exhibition. (Bee. August G, 11.30 p.m.) London, August 6.. In the course of his remarks on the subject of the Panama Exposition, Sir Edward Grey said that the Government had done nothing to diEcourago the participation of the self-governing Dominions in the Exposition, nor would they disoourage private British exhibitors from 60 doing. (Sydney "Sun" Special—Aug. 6, 7.15 p.m.) Sir Edward Grey stated in the House, that Britain's refusal to participate in tho Panama Exposition had been decided quite apart from tho tolls question.
