MUNICIPAL STEAMERS. At a mcclhiß of the Ejstbouruo Boiougli. Ccmucil, held last night at. the offices of Mr. J.' D. Avery, it' was decided fo advertiss in four centrca of tho Dominion for a manager for the ferry- scn'iec, ilip salary to Ijo not less than ,4350 per annum. Applications will close on August 22, and applicants canvassing members of tho council will bo disqualified. A Ferry Board was elected and con-' sisted of the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Orcon), and Councillors li. li. Dutton, T. Wi l'ilcher, and K. I\ Keliy. Tho Mayor (Mr. W. J. Organ) referred to the report which appeared in iho evening paper last week .of a meetinc held on Monday, m which it was stated that tho council wero cointr to run a service to Miraiiinr and Sen ton n until - September 30. and remarked that such reportwas .'published without authority. The matter of raisinc a loan.of for the establishment of a municipally-, owned ferry service, which had been decided upon, by a. lares majority of the ratepayers of Eastbourne,, and which .will , bo the first enterprise of: its kind in th? Dominion, was also discussed by tho council, but it was decided to await fur-, ther information and to adjourn tho consideration of tho matter until to-morrow niclit. The loan, is required for the ourclmse of the ferry steamers Duchess and Cobar, and tho purchase has,to be completed by September 1.
