It would be necessary to have a refrigerator and smoking facilities. Several councillors expressed a willingness to face a loss in the interests of the community, and a committee, consisting of Councillors Jackson, Woon, Crabb,. and the Mayor, was set up to make further arrangements. Tho Greytown Borough Council met on Monday night.' Advice wa? received, from tho Government Advances Department stating that 100 -'per cent, on tho .£6OOO loan was available. The South Wairarapa County Council wroto again in reference to tho proposed levy for erecting" the new bridge over the Waiohine River. Tho council considered that the proposed cost of one-eighth was too much for it to bear. Tho Wairarapa Rugby Union wrote asking the council to proclaim the half-holi-day, August 27, in lieu of August 28. The matter was left with tho Mayor to deal with. Tho council is concerned regarding tho district rianifcary -offiaer being removed from Greytown, and is entering a to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Bond. A special vote of thanks was'accorded Sir Walter Buchanan, M.P., for his assistance in reference to the loan. otakT Mrs. Paterson'i wife of Dr. Paterson, of Pahiatua, late of Otaki, has been spending a few days' holiday at Otaki, being the guest of Mr. and Sirs. W. B. Smith. I Mr, Jas. Mann, of the staff of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to Nelson. Mr. M'Kay, of the bank's relieving staff, has succeeded Mr. Mann at Otaki. The scenery for Messrs. Bright Bros.' new hall at Otaki has now been installed. The scenery was painted by Mr. Campbell, of Fatoa, and it is understood his sister (Mrs. Macfarlane) assisted him with the work, which certainly redounds to tho credit of tho artists.
