This team will play in white. MEETING OF THE CONTROL. A meeting of the executive of the Wellington Rugby League was held at Petonc on Monday evening. Mr. W. Iverr presided. A communication from the New Zealand Council was received notifying that the New South Wales team would arrive in Wellington oii August 20, and that Messrs. Jl'Donald (Auckland) and Brico (Wellington) had been appointed selectors for tlio New Zealand team, which is to play against New South Wales. Letters from the Ilawke'g Bay, Wanganui, and Turanaki Leagues were received, asking for dittos on which to play Wellington in Wellington. It wns decided to reply to the effect that owing to.the,difficulty , in procuring suitable grounds tlio requests must bo considered at a later date. It was decided .to play an A and B trial match next Saturday. After this game the representative team to play against Canterbury on August 1G at Newtown Park will be selected. > The match for tho Northern. Union Cup, Auckland 'v. Wellington,' was arranged to be played on August 23 at Newtown Park. LACROSSE. THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. The final selection lias b'cen mode of tho lacrosse team to represent Wellington- in the Proud Shield match' against Auckland at tho Basin Reserve on August 10. With -a splendid punch on tho jaw, Bombardier Wells fulfilled what was <!xpocted of him. All tho same, ho had to fight hard for victory.- Early in the third round, Wells went weak from tho repeated body blows when O'Keefe got to close quarters. Wells's height and reach enabled him to punch his opponent's face almost when he liked, but he did not make the most of his advantage. He fought timidly at times. Ho was at his best in the thirteenth round. Leading frequently with great power, lio brought his right across splendidly. O'Kcefo took a lot of punishment, niiil luckily did not go down ( until the knockout.
