THE SHIELD MATCH.

Sir,—ln reference to the Brown Shield football match played on Saturday last I beg you to accept the following- lines. I believe the referee to have done injustice to the Wellington team. In the last five minutes he showed his incapacity as a referee by blowing his whistle without cause, thereby stopping both teams. He then allowed the players to resume the game without giving a reason for the stoppage, thus allowing the visitors to score a goal to which they wore not entitled. The crowd noticed this and hooted vigorously.-! am, etc., SPECTATOR.
