OPINION OP DR. VALINTINE.
Quito a now feature of tho smallpox outbreak is a reported case from Akaroa, in the South Island. No confirmation has been received of this by tho Health Department, but investigation is being made.
The following official bulletin, covering Sunday and Monday, .was posted last night:—
tho District Health Officer, Auckland (Dr. Monk), reports two cases amongst Luropoaus—one at Remuera, and ono at Mount Eden, Auckland—and two more Maoris from Waiheke. Ho also reports more cases at Kairara, with two deaths. The latter were both Maori women prematurely confined, tho infants being still-born. Another case is reported from Tauwhare, one from Okoroiro, and a second case contact from Waiuku. - Tl "> District Health Officer, Wellington. (Dr. Chesson), reports nothing fresh. AUCKLAND CASES, TWO IN A BOAKDINGHOUSE. (Br TelosraDh.—Prcsa Ai-soci&tion.) n, , Auckland, August 4. Iwo fresh cases of tho prevailing disease were found in nn Auckland boardlngliouso to-day. Both patients were Europeans. Tho usual precautions were taken at onoe, and the patients were removed to tho Isolation Hospital at Point Tho ltemuera case reported on Saturday is stated to bo a very inild one, and therefore it has not been deemed necMsary to do moro' than to isolate tho patient in his present residence. Another mild case, tho patient being a young European woman, has been located at Mount Eden. In this case, too, the patient has been isolated at her placo of rosidenoo.
DR. VALINTINE'S VISIT. NO DOUBT OF THE DISEASE. Auckland, August 4. Tlie Chief Hoaltli Ofliccr (Dr. Vnlin* tme) spent a tow hours in Auckland, and left again for Wellington by tlio Alain Trunk express in tlio evening! Ho has' just completed a tour of tho AVaikato district, and stated that ho has not tho least doubt that tho disease prevalent ill that locality is smallpox. Dr. Valintinc reached To Awaimitu in tlio early hours of Saturday morning, and, during Saturday and Sunday, saw 55 cases in various stages. At Parawai, near Thames, ho stated that thore wero six patients suffering from a. very severe typo of smallpox, while, in addition, thero woro 1G convalescents. Cases, had been seen at Taupiri, and Te Kauwliata, near Wnirangi, wliilo other isolated settlements visited had thoir sufferers. All tho patients wero isolated, and tho Waikato Hos. pital Board had appointed additional officers to assist in preventing tho epidemic from spreading. Tho various local authorities, in conjunction with tho police, were looking tho Natives away from tho towns.
During his visit of inspection, Dr. Valintine viewed tho body of a Maori missionaiiy who died near Taupiri on Friday and, from what ho saw, had no hesitation'in saying that death had been due to very eovcro coi}iluont smallpox. Dr. Valintino also stated that tliero could bo no doubt that tho cases at Parawai and To Kauwliata wero of a much moro virulent typo than thoso at Whangivrei, or even at Auckland.

The cases at Yass and Ulmarra are under investigation; tho latter is believed to be smallpox.
Tlio suspected cases at Armidalo and Newcastle are not smallpox.
Brisbane, August 4. Suspicious cases at Cairns, Goodna, and Paddiugton are under observation. Melbourne, August 4. Tiio Karoola, with, her passengers and crow, has now teen freed from nil restrictions. 'i'ho last of tho contacts have beon released, and the only oocupant of the Quarantine Station is' a woman who caused tho original scare. Sho is progressing favourably.
