Tho Wellington City Band surpassed themselves in their rendering last night at His Majestys' Theatre of the favourite march of Zakle's, "Viscount Nelson, the selections from Verdi's works, as arranged by Round, in which the comet, trombone, and euphonium airs woro delightfully rendered in tho descriptive fantasia. An Italian Festival" (Pecorjni), which describes in its various movements' daybreak, battle of flowers, religious procession, chant of monks, chant of women, tarantella, andanto, march, and nnale; and in tho quickstep, "Tho Passing Regiment" (Beyer). Lieutenant Herd was in command. Tho vocalists were Mr. Jnmes Calvert, a popular English tenor, who was heard to the best advantage in "Because," which he gave as an encoro to "The Message" (Blumenthal), his rendering of "In Sympathy" (Leoni), and "Till Dawn" (Leoni), also being effective; and Mr. W. H. Church, who, in response to an encore to "Tho Lonely Road (iox), gavo "I am your Friend" with equally good effect, whilst later in tho evening lie gave Jlascheroiii's popular iul Death." Further variety to an excellent Erogramme was introduced by Mr. Pj . Minifie, whose piccolo solo, "Badinage (Damano) was heartily encored.
