Branch, of the Teachers* Institute passed the following resolution yesterday"Whereas the teaching profession of the Dominion, though recognised as the most importout body of Civil Servants in the country has for years lain, under grave disabilities, -the worst of which arc the totally unreliable methods of promotion, and Clio totally inadequate pay, and whereas, necessarily,' the demands of a progressive democracy aro making increasingly higher demands oil tho capacity, energy, and integrity of tcaohers, which they have with very slight encouragement striven at least to meet, and whereas, tho income, the private and public, of this Dominion lifts (luring the last decade I>een immensely enhanced, this body of teachers, representative of the Wairarapa schools respectfully and emphatically protests against the decision of tho Minister for Education not to introduce amending legislation this session." PRIMARY SCHOOL SYLLABUS. Invcrcargill, August 3. Tho Southland Education Institute Ims resolved that: "In view of the repeated failure of tho Education Department to afford duo recognition to tho voico of practical experience in formulating tho primary soliool syllabus, and reasonably limiting its 'demands, the institute urges the setting up of a Council of Education, as recommended by t.h« Education Commission, and endorsed by tho New Zealand Institute J and that this council should assume final responsibility in framing the syllabus
