DEBATING SOCIETY.

The Public Trust Office Debating Society held its first debate last night. There were about 70 officers present. Dr. Fitcliett (Public Trustee) presided, and he was supported ,b.v Messrs. M. C. Barnett, C. Zaehariah, and W. A. Fordham (viccpresidents). The subjcct was: "That the Existing System of Compulsory Military Training is Desirable," the mover being Mr. A. C Bretherton, supported by Mr. Vi. M. Egglestone, while tho opposition was led by Mr. E. P. Hay, supported by Mr. If. L. llacalister. The motion was earned by a largo majority. The president congratulated tlie nociet.y on its start, and intimated that ho hoped to 1« able to dedicate a large room for tho use of tho staff as a social hall.
