WESTLAND'S JUBILEE.
■ ♦ 'A COMING CELEBRATION. Steady progress is being made with tho arrangements for the Westland Ooldfields Jubilee (18G4-19U), which is. to bo celebrated at Hokitika on January 7, 8, and 9, next. A bulletin issued by tho committee announces..that tho Prime Minister and the. Hon. AY,. Frascr. have both signified their intention of ; beinf present, and a (largo, influx of old West Coasters is expected . ; .. ... . Tho Minister for Railways, it, is slated, lias advised that free passes trill -bo issued to bona-flde pioneers who aro in receipt of tlie old ago pension', and tickets issued at holiday excursion rates will be granted to others desirous of attending the celebrations from all stations oil New Zealand lines. The Union Steam Ship Company has also informed the committee that it will make a concession of 25 per cent, on ordinary passage money to any old age pensioner who may desire to participate in the celebrations. A certification of identification will bo arranged through tho Pensions Registrar's Office if those desiring saino will advise tho secretaries at Hokitika. It has been decided to mark tho jubileo with a memorial to the memory of tho pioneers. Tho proposal is to erect a statue in Hokitika, close to the railway station. It will represent a figure of a miner in prospecting kit, typical of tho pioneer days, and is estimated to cost .£IOO.
