EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly melting of the Wellington Education. Board was held yesterday. Mr. 'It. Lee presided, and thera wero also present Sir Walter Buchanan, Messrs. J. G. W. Aitkcn, A. W. Hogg, T. Moss, W. H. Field, H. Freeman, and J. Kcbbcll. A Government grant of ,£325 for additions to the Training College site was received. It was decided to send a circular to all schools, drawing attention to the fact that an' Education Court at tlie Auckland Exhibition could be used by the schools. Mr. Coleman Phillips wrote urging the necessity of exclusion of children from' school in certain cases, and drew attention to the fact that coughs and soro throats were often contracted at schools. The writer suggested an examination once a week! when any troubles could bo at onra ascertained. - Jlr. Stewart (secretary) drew attention to tho fact that headmasters had discretionary power to exclude children in certain cases. The matter was referred to the Carterton School Committee, from which district tho complaint came. A number of recommendations were received from tho Secondary Schools' Conference. On tho motion of Mr. Aitken it was'decided to consider the recommendations, with .one exception, at tlio next moating of the board. . . A petition for establishment of a school was received from Mangaroa (Upper Hutt). It was decided to obtain a report on tlio matter. ... It was decided to accede to the request for inspection from the Takapnwahia Private School (near Porirua). On t-ho.rccommendr.tion of the Finance Committee, it was decided liat the clerk of works should visit and report regarding ground improvements at the Petono Main School. Permission was pranttd- tho Johnsonvile School Comnutteo to let tho old schoolroom, -provided that it was covered by insurance to its insurable value.
