THE HISTORICAL PAGEANT.
PROGRESS' REPORT. Progress was reported last night in connection with tho historical pageant, to be held in Newtown Park on October 25 and 27. A meeting of those interested m the affair wag called for the Mayor's room, Town Hall, last night, and by the crowded attendance it was tit once evident that enthusiasm is in the movement. Mr. G. A. Troup presided, and was supported by Mr. G. M. Silver, pageant master, and Mr. Wm. ,T. Bennett, director of tho Boys' Institute. After a short speech by tho chairman, the pageant master javo hints on methods and explained how those in charge of groups could gain assistance. He plaoed before the meeting also a complete list of the characters to be represented. Dr. Hay, one of the historians, then indicated those groups that were lxsing taken up. The women, lie said, were coming forward "manfully," but the men were not coming forward so well. no named quite a number of the men, however, who were forming groups. One thing which impressed upon those present was that pageant would he "a tremendous frost" "unless they put some warmth into it. Mr. ,T. D. Hoare resigned his position as convener of tlie Side Shows Committee, but expressed his willingness to lielp on the committee. Mr. IT. C. W. Blick was appointed in succession to Mr. Hoare. Several present reported what had been done in connection with tho formation of groups, and guaranteed to have evorythins in order on tho appointed day.
