ROTORUA TROUT.

STATE TO RETAIN CONTROL. The Acclimatisation Societies' Conference, through Mr. C. B. Morison, K.C., on Thursday urged on the Minister for Internal Affairs (tho Hon. 11. D. Bell) that "it is in tho interest of tho Dominion that the control of fish and gamo in tho Rotorua acclimatisation district bo placed l under a local acclimatisation society." Mr. Morison contended, that tho work could bo more cheaply and efficiently carried out by a body of enthusiastic sportsmen than by Government officials. Tho people of the district had been so disheartened by what had taken place in Tecent years that they could not co-oper-ate with the Department. Mr. Bell said he had already considered tho matter, and ho had made up his inind that tho request coulU not bo granted. Ho did not intend, so long a 9 he had control of the Department, to allow what Mr. Morison had properly described as a Dominion asset to bo handed over to any local society; The _ Department, however, desired to work in every possible way with any local organisation, and it was" quito ready to facilitate tho constitution of a formal acclimatisation society in tho district. The Department would bo quite glad of the, co-operation of a local society, but ho did not think that its funds would bo equal to tho financial burden that tho work involved.
