Evidence is being given by tho Australian Minister for External* Affairs, of a desire to test thoroughly and develop energetically the oilfields recently discovered in Papua. Favourably impressed by Judge Murray's advocacy of a railway from the coast, he promptly sought funds from tho Treasury for the construction of tho line. The work is to bo put in hand almost immediately. Besides assisting the oil industry, the railway will serve a largo area of agricultural and mineral country. Mr. Glynn will dispatch to London forthwith, a cable, instructing the High Commissioner to select a scientific expert, to examine and report on tho fields, and if necessary to control their developments afteiwartls.
