Dannovirke Wedding. A very picturesque wedding, which took place- on July 23 at Knox Church, Dannevirke, was that of Mr. John 13. Kasnniscn, Jof Waituna West (late of Dannevirke), I and Miss Alice Henderson, of Dannevirke. The bride wore a trained gown of silk voilo, with a wreath of orange- blossom and veil, and carried a shower bouquet of white jonquils and asparagus fern. Tho bridegroom was attended by Mr. 0. Anderson and Mr. C. Neilsen. Tho bridesmaids were Misses A. Crallau and E. Mills (cousins of tho bride), and both woro cream dressos and carried beauti-fully-arranged bouquets of violets and maidenhair fern. The bridegrooni's presents to tho bride and bridesmaids were pretty gold pendants. A reception was held at the residence of tho bride's uncle, Mr. J. I'. Crallau, at which a large number of friends assembled. Mr. and Mrs. llasmusen afterwards left by motorcar for Wangauui, where a short honey-' moon will bo spent. Tlie bride's travelling dress was a grey tailor-made costume and black beaver hat with ceriso plumes. A Golden Wedding.
A Press Association telegram from New Plymouth received yesterday states that tho golden wedding to-day of Colonel and Mrs. W. B. Messenger (formerly of Wellington) was tho occasion of a remarkable gathering, including tho two bridesmaids and best man, seven sons and three daughters. One- daughter, and ono son were -absent.,.-' - '. j' Dance in St, Peter's. Tho third annual dance of tho staff of Messrs. J. Duthio and Co.'s firm was held in St. Peter's Schoolroom last evening, and was thoroughly successful from every point of view. With plenty of partners, an excellent floor, and good music, it could hardly fail to be otherwise. The- decorations had _ been very effectively carried out, a friozo of pnlo green muslin carried round tho walls of tho room making a charming background for tho lycopodiunV which was festooned against it. Trails of lyconodium drooped over tho lights, and falling from tho ceiling to each siclo of the stage were festoons of lycopodium, to which were fastened clusters of scarlet and pink flowers. Tho stago had been carpeted aud comfortably furnished with screens nnd arm-chairs" for tho uso of those- not dancing. Tho soft red of the birch foliage also added a pretty touch of colour to tho general effect. The three chnperoncs were: Mrs. liigff, wearing black satin and laco; Mrs. - Ear-die, in a striped floral silk gowu, bordered with black satin and veiled with jewelled net; Mrs. Harper, pale blue, with ninon and touches of dark velvet. Among thoso who wcro present rcro: Mrs. Ogg, wearing n. holiotropo frock; Miss MMConzie, in black; Miss Loslie, cream laoe frock, with red roses at tho waist; Miss M'Donald, opal silk frock, trimmed with point lace; Miss Ci-dickshank, pale pink charmeuso and ninon; Miss Brocklebank, apricot satin; Miss Poison, bluo and grey shot silk frock; Miss Grant, dark green velvet; Miss Ryder, white- silk, with little coatee of black laco; Miss Rcnnie, white silk; Miss Hill, pink charmeuse; Miss Walton, in. white silk with black lace. Mr. AY. Duthie appeared later in the evening. Tho committee- responsible for the excellent arrangements comprised the Misses Haskell, Mace, Rennie, Hill; Messrs: Deniams, Connor, Harper, Legg, Pollock, Ritchie, Turnbnll, Walton, and Hardio. Mr. Zorn was tho secretary.
Dance at Sayes Court. On Thursday evening the guests staying nt Sayes Court gnvo a dance. St. Paul's Sain of Work. At a largo meeting of lady parishionore of St. Paul's, Thorndon, yesterday, it was decided to hold a sale of work during tho second week .i n October. The various stalls were allotted, and other arrancemeiils made. An attractive programme was sketched out for tho entcrtainajenta winch should prove a very acceptable feature. The promoters arc expecting the hearty support of parishioners generally, and will bo glad of suitable gifts for tho stalls, such as ornaments, furniture, and nick-nacks, and donations of eggs, fruit, and vegetables from country friends for tho provision stall would bo very welcome. It is hoped that a substantial sum lor various cluircli purposes will bo realised by tho s.ilo. Tho Lato Mrs. John Collins. Tho late Mrs. John Collins, whose death occurred last '1 ucsday afternoon, was laid to rest at tho cemetery, Karori, yesterday afternoon. The Rev. A. T. Braiusby conducted a short service at tho homo of the family, and also at the graveside. I'ho pall-bearers were two sons (Messrs. Georßo and Thomas Collins), two eons-in-Jaw (Messrs. John Niool and C. S. Godber), and two grandsons (Messrs. A. Nicol and 1. C. Young). Among thoso following wero several of the ofiicers and members of tho Vivian Street Baptist Church (of which church Mrs. Collins was ono of the foundation members), also the Mayor of. Wellington (Mr. ,T. P. Luke), and several of the corporation staff (tho eldest son, Mr. C. Collins, being tho City Treasurer). The Bcv. ,T. Dawson and Mr. W. J. Helycr represented tho New Zealand Alliance, of which Mrs, Collins was a member for many years. The deceased lady, who had reached the ago of 79 years, maintained her interest in Church work up to tho timo of her death.
A "Fivfe Hundred" Party. At tho "five hundred" party which' was given by Mrs. Hayward, at tho Hntt, on Thursday 'evening, for Miss Madeline Foster, thcro were eleven tables, and some exciting games were played. The winners proved to l>c Mrs. Strauchon and Mr. V. Foster. Afterwards dancing took place, and brought to an end a very enjoyablo evening. The spring flowers which decorated tho room's were particularly lovely, the supper table- having been arranged with violets, primroses, and maidenhair fern, while quantities of lvhito and yellow narcissi decorated the other rooms. Mrs. Hayward wore ;i *oft black crepe gown, and Miss Hayward was in pink charmeuse, veiled with pink marquisette. Miss Foster, the guest of honour, woro a shot , , blue and grey silk frock. Her mother, Mrs. Foster, woro black. There were also present: Mis? Gladys Foster and her sister, Dr. and Mrs. Mirarns, Mr. and Mrs. C. Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Strau-. chon, Miss M. Humphries, Miss Dora Wilton, Miss Mason, Miss , Bunny, Miss Callcnder, Miss Si-addon, Miss Stevens, the Misses Bath bond (2), Miss Kitty Wilson, and others.
Danco of the Public Trust Office Staff. Very successful was the annual danco of tho staff of tho Public Trust Office, which was held iu the Concert Shaanber of tho Town Hall, last evening. If anything, the room was a little , , crowded for dancing, but as tho evening advanced that was a matter that remedied itself. Flags were largely used in tho decorations, tho landing outside the Concert Chamber having been closed in with them, while the red oarpot, comfortaMo-looking chairs, and foliage plants, made it a very attractive sitting-out place. Inside tho chamber were festoons of lycopodinni and red (lowers, carried from the pasoliers to tho ■walls, decorations that, curiously enough, were slightly reminiscent of other glories. For all that, however, they wcro exceedingly pretty. Supper, which was under the 'management of; Mr. J. Godbor's capable staff, was laid «n' : tobles ati-tho further cud of the corridor, white narcissi having been profusely used for their decoration. Here again were flags draping the walls, their gay combinations of colours ■ standing out bravely against tho . white walls. Among those present wcro Mrs. A. L. Herdman, who wore'brown charmeuse, with cream laca draping tho bodice; Mrs. Ronaldson, black satiu and lace; Mrs. Hales, amethyst frock; Miss M'Gowan, apricot charmeuse,, with cream lace; Mrs. Masters, pale blue and white frock; Miss M'lncrney, pale pink charmeuse, veiled witli ninon; Miss Nash, buttercup charmeuse, with cream lace; Mrs. Mackay, white satin; Miss Fallows, pink ninon; Miss Jack, blue charmeuso; Miss Fisher, dark bluo frock, with hi£o and Oriental trimming; Mrs. James Hisiop, roso channouse, veiled with cream laco and ninon;, Miss M. Fisher, flamecoloured charmeuse; Miss L. Nash, cream silk; Mrs. Quirk, black satin, with jet embroideries; Mrs. Zachariah, pink charmeuse, with ninon and lace; Miss Levy, buttercup charmeuse, with pointed overdress of gold net, finished with fringe; Mi-s Watson, white lace and niuon; Misa Bownes, pale bfoe- ninon, with a red rose at the waist; Miss M'Lean, grey satin opening over white lace; Miss Marshall, deep yellow satin, finished with black lace. "Tho Mnyor and Mayoress arrived later in tho evening, the latter wearing black ninon and lace, over emerald green satin. The committee was formed by Mrs. Masters, Miss M'lnerney, Miss, Nash, Messrs. G. G. Bell, A. C. Brctherton, W. M. Egglcston, F. 13. Kelly, T. U. King, D, L. M'Kay, H. Pearco, and L. W. Tattlo. Mr. A. C. Bretherton was the secretary.
Yesterday afternoon Miss M. Foster was tho guest of honour at a tea given by Miss Callender at tho Hutt. As each guest was to bring with her & tried recipe, tho bride-to-be ended by having an exccedi'nijly varied and useful store with which to experiment by and by. Miss D. Roberts, who has been spendiiiK the last three mouths in Auckland, returns to Wellington to-day, and joins her siiter, Mrs. La Trobe, at Oriental Bay, A meeting of tho Society for the Prolection of Women and Children was held .vcolcrdnv afternoon. It is interesting to iiofco that two of Wellington's'most distinguished women, are standing for election us president ot the. Pioneer Club, a. matter that will bo decided at tho coming annual election to l>o held shortly.. They aro both philanthropic workers, and aro associated with iniuiv public movements, including societies 'for the betterment of the conditions of women and children, where necessary. Both Indies are members of the Women s Political Keform league, but as tho club is a strictly non-political one, the question of nolilics'has no bearing upon the question nt issue. Mrs. A. K, Atkinson is without question one of tho best women sneakers that could 1)0 heard anywhere in the Dominion, and has a long record bo hind hor of valunblo public work.

Ball «t Buckingham Palace (states a Press Association cablegram, dated London July 24), l'rhieo Arthur of Con naught and Princess Alexandra of Fife, whose engagement was recently announced, danced tho opening quadnllo. Mrs Sutclift'o has h> far recovered from her recent severe illness that sho was nbio to go to tho Lahmann Homo this week. She will stay thero for treatment for some, little while. An extremely delectable-looking .wedding cake, tho work of tho pupils nttendms Miss Carter's cookery classes, is on viewin Darnell's Buildings, in Wilis Street. Miss Carter has not been very long in Wellington, but her lessons have boon successful in many cases in providing very successful results.
