Tho Trades Federation believes tho Government intends to detach tho railwaymen by generous treatment. Tho Federation insists that tho railwaymen shall hold out until the miners' dcniande aro conceded, Pretoria, July 24. The conference between the Government and the Labour leaders has concluded. General Botha, the Premier, intimated that the Government would reply 'in writing. He believed tho results would bo generally satisfactory. BUSINESS PLACES FORTIFIED. (Bee. July 25, 11.20 p.m.) Johannesburg, July 25. The Government lias taken elaborate precautions to preservo order in tho event of failure in connection with tho Band strike settlement, and ten thousand troops have been distributed about tho Rand district, while the police havo armed Corner House and the power stations, which have been fortified with machine guns.
