NAIRN STREET SCHEME ADOPTED, A special meeting of the committeo ap: pointed to arrive at a schciuo for spend/, ing the proceeds from tho Easter Carnk val a sum amounting to just undei .£2OOO, met last night in the Mayor's room, and decided that the money should go towards tho laying out of the Nairn Street Reserve, botweon Nairn Street and Ohiro Road, as a park for AYollington. The area of tho resorvo is about forty, acres, and only a part has yet been planted, but tho trees have taken well, and grown better than anywhere on t'ho Town Belt. Tho soil is good, and the sito is well sheltered, easy of access, and commands a good view of tho harbour and city. Great paing havo been taken by tha committee, who havo had to coiidder tea schemes. They havo decidol that the Nairn Street site will make an ideal park for Wellington. Tho money at present available will be used in laying out a< part of the land, and it is probable that. Mr. Morton (City Engineer) will bo asked, to draft a scheme for tho whole • block.
with a view to further money being expended on tho site in laying-out playing fields, etc., and generally making a park which will be appreciated by tho pub lie.
