Mr. Amies Beaumont, tho well-known, tenor, whoso death in Melbourne was announced Inst week, was} for years ono of the leading operatic singers of Australia. Born near Norwich in 1810, he first appeared in Sydney at tho concerts given by M. Poussard, tho violinist, and M. Douay, tho 'cellest, in 1855. Not lonff aftorwards he joined the Lystor Opera Company, and rapidly ndvnnced to tho rank of a principal through his success in singing tho rolo of Elvino in "La Somnambula," at about an hour's notice. The artist became extremely popular all over Australia in a wido range of charac* ters, and later on attained distinction as t an interpreter of oratorio. 'Latterly ho was teaching in Melbourne.
