HUTT AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Special Correspondent.)

An inspection of the Hutt River and district has been made by Messrs. Kyle, Nash, 13eale, and Nathan (of the Palmers-ton-Kairanga River Board), in comp'tny with Messrs. Baldwin (chairman of Ilutt River Board) and Fisher (engineer). It is stated ithat the Palmerston representatives were impressed with, the work of the last five years. Tho Hutt River groynes cost about -f:100 each, and 32 have been placed. The best piece of work was performed at Gear Island, where the course of the river was altered by tho groyne system. Lectures on "Astronomy" were given by Mr. Shearsby on Wednesday and Thursday last to tho children of tho Petone and Hutt Schools A mothers' meeting in connection, with the W.C.T.U. was held at the Petone Church of Christ on Wednesday. An address on "proper feeding of infants" was given by Miss Morgan (Plunket nurse). Mrs. C. Hope gavo a recitation. Afternoon tea was provided by the superintendent of the "cradle roll."
