MASTERTON NOTES.
A man named Richard Henry Williams, who was sentenced at Tenui to three months' imprisonment on a chnrgo of vagrancy,. was taken to Wellington yesterday. There will be sixty competitors in tlio Jlarrkrs' eross-country cliampionsliip, which is to bo decided horn on Saturday next. Teams from Wellington, Brooklyn, Central. Foildinj,', and jUusterton will compete. The shield, which was competed for at I'aliiKTstoii North last year, is at present held by Masterton. The attendances at the morning, afternoon, and evening serious in connection with the musical and elocutionary I'ompotitions have, so I'ar, be; 11 very satisfactory. The judges (Messrs. Montague and Gregton, of Auckland), speak highly of the arrangements for the festival. The supp]y of lymph having riHi out, no vaccinations have been jsrrformcd here for the last couple of days.
