Scott, secretary of tho South 'Island Dairy Association, reports, Says a Press Associivtion telegram, that Homo buyers of cheese are still active, and that some big factories in Otago and Southland havo .disposed of tho whole of the mako from September to April, inclusive, at 6Jd. per lb. on trucks. Mr. Ormond C. Cooper has been nominated for the presidency of tho Mastertoil A. and P. Association in succession to Mr. Hugh Morrison. Thirty-four nominations have been received for thirty vacancies on tho general committee. Change is the order of the day! Therefore we change an old adage. "Where there's a. Vat there is Whey." There was a eood sale for store cheep, cwc& being firmer. The entry of fat lambs showed a. further reduction in numbers and quality. They were mostly bought up by graziers. Fat pigs shoived 110 change. i Store sheep—Ewes (local bred), iwo-tooth. £1 33. 6d. to £1 45.: 2. 4. 5, and 8-tooth ((rood), 18s. to £1 36. 10d.: 2 and 4-toot.h (■good), £1 3«. to £1 45.: 4 and 6-tooth (exceptionally good), to £1 65.; 4. 6, andß-tooth 17s. sd. to 17s. 9d.; 4. 6, and 8-tootll, 17s. lid.; 4, 6. and 8-tooth (ernnly), 13s. 6d. to 155.; fair-mouthed lines, 14s. to 15s. 5d.: wethers, 2, 4, and 6-tooth (forward), 18s. 7d.; 2-tooth (small and low-condition). 14s. 3d. The entry of fat lambs totalled only 11C6. as against 1876 the week ebfore. Heavy I lambs made 16s. 6d. to 18s. 9d., and lighter. ! 14s. 9d. to % 16s. Tho yarding of fat sheen was also someI what smaller, and the duality was not ! up to the high level of tho previous week. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers, to £1 155.: prime. £1 Is. to £1 6s. 9d.; others, lfa. 6d. to £1 Os. 6d.j merino wethers, £1 Is. 9d. to £i 35.; prime owes. 18s. to £1 3s. 9d.; medium. 15s. 6d. to 17s. 6d.; aged and. light, 14s. to 15s. 1 Tliero was a representative entry of fat cattle, tho yarding totalling 208 head ! against 2&8 at the previous sale. Steers realised £9 2s. 6(1. to £11: extra. £13 15s. to £16 155.; hodfers. £7 7s. 6d. to £10 7s. 6d.; extra, to £12 55.: and cows, £6 ss. to £8 10?.: extra, to £12 15s. Store cattle—Fifteen to eightecn-mouths sorts realised £2 155.: 2-year heifers. £4 10s.; 2§-year steers. £5 l£te. to £6; 3-years. £6 ss. to £7 17s. 6d.: 3-year heifers, £5 to £6; and cowa, £1 to £6. Dairy cows made £4 10s. to £11; extra, to £13. There was a fair entry of fat pijs. Chop* per 3 realised £3 10s. to £6 lfc.: heavy baconers. to £3 155.: and lighter sorts. £2 10s. to £3 ss - . (enual to sd. per lb.): heavy porkers mad© £2 to £2 65.; and lighter pics, £1 -15s. to £1 l&s. 6d. (enual to 6d. to 61d. per lb.). The yarding of store pigs was of average dimensions, and there was good competition for all descriptions. The be?t. sorts realised £2 to £2 3f\; medium, £1 13s .to £1 195.: and small *ies. 18s. to £1 125.; wcaners brought fig. to lfa.: sows in pig. for which there was good inmury. £4. £5 10s. 4d.
BTJUNSIDE MAKKET. Dlinedin, July 23. At Burnside market to-day 160 fat cattle were penned, consisting of medium to good duality bullocks afld heifers. Competition was good, and nrieoj were on a par with late rates. Best bullocks, to £14 to. 6d.; good, £11 10s. to £12 10s.: medium. .£lO to £11 55.-. light, £8 10s. to £9 10a.: best heifers and cows, to £12 2s. 2s. 6d.: good, £8 lCs. to £9 10s.; medium. £7 to £8 £s.; light. £5 to £6. : Fat sheep—There was a small yarding. 2114 being penned. Onlv a few pens were of extra prime duality. At tlio commencement of tlio sale prices showed a rise of about Is. per head on last week's rates, but towards the close values receded to the late level. Extra primo wethers, to £1 10s.: prime. £1 4s. to £1 55.: medium, £1 2s. 6(1.: light, 17s. to 19s. 6d.; prime ewes. £1 Is. to £1 45.: medium, 17s. to £1: light. Us. to 16s. Pat lambs—Only 1060 were offered , consisting mainly of light and medium weights. Owing to _ tlio presence of northern graziers, competition wats keefl. and prices were firm at last week's rate 3. Best, to 19.3. 6d.: good, 16s. to 175.; light and medium, 14s. to 15s. 6d. Pigs—Twenty-five fat pies were penned. Owing to the small yarding competition was keen, and prices were . very firm.
