■SUPERIOR TO NORTH ISLAND? The "Southland Times" states that cheese buyers are already- operating . in Southland, and are making somo tempting offers. It being a littlo early in tho season, not, much business is offering. It is also stated that tho South Island Dairy .Association intends to advise factories to handle their cheese as a South Island product as distinct from that produced in the North Island. It is claimed that tho South Island product is cheese of better quality, and is not getting its placo on the' London market in consequence of the confusion that exists. In regard to. shipments of cheese, 0119 gentleman interviewed said that the association was going to use its endeavours to have fortnightly shipments direct from tho Bluff to save handling. With reference to tho packing of cheese, it was stated that there was one point which factory managers should take notice of. In packing, it had been the custom in the past to put only one nail in tho dividing boards between tho cheese. This had resulted in'the case springing and having a second-class appearanco wljen it reached tho market. The reports on South Island cheese, it was held, wero with very few exceptions entirely satisfactory, much moro so than those covering the products from the North Island factories.
