PAYMENT OF JURORS.
INCREASE URGED. Workers and others summoned ns jurors to the Supreme Court sittings are paid only -Is. per day unless they are drawn to sit on the juries, Mr. Laurenson stated in the House of Representatives yesterday, and he asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the serious loss which this meant to a man earning his living, he would see the wisdom of having the above-named sum increased to a more reasonable amount. The Hon. A. L. Herdman replied: The Juries Act, 1908, provides that jurors shall be paid Bs. if they attend for more than four hours in tho day, and 4s. if they attend for not more than four hours. Some complaint has been made, but any alteration would require an amendment of the law. The matter will, however, be looked into, with a view •to seeing whether anything can be done.'
