STRIKE-STRICKEN BOAT.
PRANKS ON S.S. PUTIKI. (By Telegraph—: Press Aa?otiation.) Wanganui, July 23. Tho coastal steamer l'uUlti is having moro than u fair sharo of experience in strikes. A few weeks ago tho steamer was held up for several days, owing to trouble with Hie crew, and a new crew had to be obtained from Wellington. Today another strike—more of a freak than tho previous one—look place. When tho steamer was ready to sail it was found desirable to put tho cook and steward ashore to overcomo a difficulty iu the stalling of tho culinary department, and one of tho seamen was pressed into service for the trip. The steamer cast off, but, just before reaching tho bar, the crew cumo to the conclusion that they could not, or ■would not, sail withouta properly qualified cook. Tho captain had to' return to the town wharf, and, after much trouble a man was found to tako the place of the delinquent one iu tho ship's galley. The Putiki eventually got away minus a steward.
