ROSE & CARNATION CLUB.

The annuil report of the Wellington Rose and Carnation Club states that tho finances are in a more satisfactory position. After wiping off the actual outstandings, totalling .Cl-J lis. 4d., handed down train the previous year's workings, and paying off all liabilities excepting also allowing i'or'JtS deposit paid tu secure tho Town Hall for the next show, there is a bank balance of „£IS 10s. lUd. The plant, valued at i'4s (after deducting 10 per cent, depreciation) is in first-class order. This amount, coupled "with tho above amounts, shows total assets amounting to JXS 10s. lOd. Both tho rose show in November and the carnation and sweet pea show in January were amongs the most successful the club has held to date. The committee expresses its appreciation for the fine exhibit of sweet jieas staged by Mr. Trevethick, as also for tho fine displays mado by various nuiterymen, and to tlioso who rendered assistance in making last year's shows a success. The date of the rose show for. the coming year has been fixed for Wednesday, November 19, in the large Town Hall. The following notices of motion havo boon given as follow:— (1) Mr. G. Remington will move that: "The definition of an amateur as far as the club is concerned shall be: A person who does not cultivate plants, llowers, or seeds exclusively for a living. (2) Mr. Wt A. Read will move (if No. I motion is not carried): "No person shall be eligible to compete in" the amateur classes who regularly employs a professional gardener."
