"THE BAD SIDE OF THE TURF." WOOTTON'S LIBEL ACTION. By Tclegfapli—Press Association—Oopyrieht London, July 21. Tho hearing of the libel suit instituted by R. Wootton, the well-known trainer, against Robert Sievior, of tho "Winning Post," was continued. ' Huxley, the jockey, gavo evidence thnt Wootton had never ordered him to pull horses. Sievier, in an emotional speech, said that ho was not there as nn angel, but as oira knowing something of the bad side of tho turf. Ho know when horses woro pulled, and why they were not hacked. He asked the jury to remember Wcotton's heavy winnings. This was a case where money spoke. Sir William Bass, a horse-owner, gave evidence that he did not think that Prank Wootton, when riding Stick-up, tried his best to win the Cambridgeshire Stakes. Taylor, an ex-jockey, stated that ho rodo Mitral at Keinpton Park in December, 1907, and that Wootton, sen., told him that if he found Mitral going strong to run him wide at the turn. Cross-examined, the witness admitted being a heavy drinker, and making a living by spying on trials while concealed under hedges. (Rec. July 22, 11.15 p.m.) Otto Madden, another jockey, in his evidence said that he thought that Frank Wootton was hanging back in the Cambridgeshire Stakes through inexperience. During tho raco he came within a neck of Stick-up and called out: "Why don't you let him go?"
