HUTT AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Special Correspondent.)

St. David's Young Men's Hall was filled to the doors last evening when tlio Rev. J. Kennedy Elliot, , 8.A., addressed the Kathering on "Impressions of a Trip Home." The Bev. A. Thompson presided. Incidentally to the lecture the speaker touched on the various ministers whom he had heard in London. Most of the Nonconformist preachers whom he had heard were, lie thought, rather political, In Scotland lie found that the tendency was to make the services short. In.lreland (his native land), after 27 years' absence, he found the labourers in .the country much .raoro comfortable than in lijs. time. A great many were fast becoming their own landlords.- Here he was able to preach to his old audiences. Mr. Elliot then gave an interesting account of his Continental tour. At tlio conclusion he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Petone corps of tlio Salvation Army will be celebrated on Sunday and Monday next. Major Kirk will conduct the services. No fewer than twenty-seven motorists are to be required to "explain things" at the next sitting of the Hutt Court.
