MASTERTON. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Hockey Association was held on Monday evening, when it was decided tq accept a guarantee from the Featherston .Club to have tho Hawke's Bay match played in that town on Thursday. The Wangauui match, for the Gordon Cup, was definitely fixed lor July 31, at Masterton. It was decided to approach the representative of school hockey in Wellington, with a view to arranging a school representative match with AVairarapa. The dates fori the matches for the remainder of the season were drawn up. Mr, C. Hausmann, who was until recently chief engineer at the AVaingawa freezing works, was on Saturday presented by the employees at the works with, a gold watch and chain, suitably, inscribed.

The'usunl meeting of the Loyal Masterton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., U.N., was held in the Druids' Hall,- Masterton, on Monday'' evening, when Bro. F. Youle, N.G., occupied the chair. Two new members were initiated into the Order, P.G. Bro. P. Smith, acting as Lecture Master. DANNEVIRKE. At the annual meeting of the Dannevirke A. aud P. Association on Saturday Mr. K. Boake, on behalf of the Daiinevirke Hunt Club, applied to the association for financial assistance in the shape of a donation of at least .65. The speaker quoted" from last year's entries in the hunters' competition, the liberal support accorded the association by members of the Hunt Club. After some discussion, the motion -that £5 be donated to the club was put and lost, 11 voting for and 13 against. Many did not record their vote.

The Dannevirke A. and P. Association have shown their recognition of the good work done by their secretary, by recommending that his salary be increased from ,£125 to .£l5O per year, plus .625 petyear for office rent and expenses. NELSON. At Friday's meeting of the Nelson City Council on the matter of tenders for work on the Church Hill, the Mayor stated,that Mr. Cawthron had offered to pay a third of t'lie cost, but was strongly in favour of the work being carried out by day labour.—lt was resolved that the work be carried out by day labour ' at a cost not exceeding JilCO. The annual meeting of the Nelson Instrict Motor Cycle Club was held at tho club room on Friday evening. Mr. J. H. Finney presided, and there was a good attendance of members. The bnl-ance-shcet showed the club to be in a satisfactory financial position. Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr. R. S. Booth; president, Mr. F. St. John; vice-presidents, Drs. H. Pearless, W. D. S. Johnston, Messrs. H. It. Duncan and J. H. Finney; captain, Mr. T. C. Mansford (re-elected); vice-captain, Mr. H. Black (re-elected); lion, secretary, Mr. C. A. Hunter (re-elected); lion, treasurer, Mr. V. Condell; committee, Messrs. B. Harden, O. Morling, N. K. Williams, 11. Gill, and E. Allan.

WOODVILLE. A Woodville resident was an applicant for one of tlio sections nt the bnliot for ■the Mangatainoka Block. The Land Board rejected' his application because he was the possessor of twenty acres of land! This applicant is a married man, ond is the father of twelve children, tho most of whom are pretty well grown up, and he was not allowed a chance beeauso he owned -'0 acres—one acre for each Child and four each for himself and wife. This, says the "Examiner," is the way the Wellington Land Board encourages a man to Keep the cradlo full. Mr. J. Sceates, who has been training his horses in Woodville for some weeks past, has resolved on remaining here permanently, as he considers Woodville the best centre in tho North Island for training horses, mid that tliero is no better training track anywhere. The weather has been very rough Bince Saturday. A' lot of rain has fallen; which has caused tho JMnga-atua to overflow its banks. Tho water was some feet deep on tho Masterton Road on Sunday and a portion of the treatment works was submerged.
