Sir Joseph Ward, who sails for Auckland by tho Niagara on July 28, remarked, in. the course of an interview, that a more sympathetic feeling was growing up between the Old Country and the Dominions. Visits to England by men' in high official positions had helped largely to effect this. Great objection was expressed in Scotland to tho rapid depopulation of the country by emigration, which was now more serious in this respect than in Ireland some years ago. A movement was on foot in England and Scotland to better the lot of the agricultural workers, with the idea of inducing them to remain.
