Sir Chas. Bowen. Speaker of the Legislative Counoil, will arrive from the south by the Mararoa this morning. Tho resignation of Dr. Crossley as Anglican Bishop of Auckland, has been accepted by tho Primate, and steps can now bs taken towards the election of his successor. A meeting of the Standing Committee will be held on Thursday evening, when the method of procedure to be adopted will bo discussed. A sub-com-mittee may possibly bo appointed to report on the matter. If it should bo deemed necessary to call a special meeting of Synod this will probably bo held immediately prior to tho ordinary meeting of Synod, to bo held early in October. —Press Association. Captain Rainoy, Marine Superin-tcnd'-Lino, went south by tho n'aluno last evening. The Hon. G. J. Smith and Messrs. G. jyitty, G. W. Russell, and S. Craigio, M.P.'s, will arrive from tlio south by tho Mararoa. this morning. There was a big gathering of the teachers and children of tho Khandallah Presbyterian Church at tho Town Hall, Kliandalkh, on Saturday, to tender to their Minister, tho Rov. R. Inglis and family, a farewell "social." Mr. W. A. Patterson, superintendent of the Sunday School, presided. Mr. Pattorson reforred in feeling terms to tho manv services rendered 1 to tho children by Jlr. and Mrs. Inglis and the Misses Inglis. Miss Inglis was presented with a pair of silver vases, and Miss Marion Ingli,s was handed a silver trinket box from tho members of their respective classes. Mr. Inglis and family leave for Auckland 1 by the Main Trunk train to-day. Mr. W. A. Veitch. M.P., is oonfined to his home in Wanganui by an attack of influenza.

Mr. William. M'Lean, of Wellington, will leave to-day for New Plymouth in order to bo present at the "opening on Thursday of tho new rotary drill—said to bo the finest yet imported into New Zealand—in connection with the Bonython Oil Company. Mr. E. A. Dawson, railway traffic inspector, who has been promoted to bo star tionmaster at Thorndon and Lanibton stations, combined, was yestenday the recipient of a pair of Swiss carved flower vases from his colleagues of the Wellington branch, where Mr. Dawson has been for tho past 15 years. Mr. A. M. Adams, of the Immigration Department, Mr. W. Copeland, of tho Government Life Insurance, Mr. F. P>ridcaux, of the firm of Messrs. Watkins, Hull and Wheeler, and Messrs. D. G. Johnston and T. Auton, of Messrs. Williams, Hunt and Co., were yesterday elected members of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. The death is announced of Mr. David Roche, aged 77, a former Mayor of Invcrcargill. Deceased arrived in Australia in 1858, was at the Gabriel's Gully and Nokomai rushes, and started business in Invercargill forty years ago." He took a prominent part in public affairs, and served on many local bodies.
