■ 1 APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT* (By Telegraph.—Pros3 Association.) Pahialua, July 19. At the conclusion of tho Mangatainolcs land ballot yesterday, the following telogram wag sent to tho I'rimo Minister by tho president of tho I'ahiatua District Progressive Association"Hon. W. P. Jlassey, Wellington.—Three hundred and fifty disappointed applicants Mangatainoka Block all good settlers unsatisfied demand for land in this fertile district. Strongly urge you to hasten subdivision Balfour Estate." Tho following reply was received:—"l have referred your telegram r© Balfour Estate to tho chairman of the Land Purchase Board, and tlw Government will endeavour to supply the land for those who ■require it.—(Sigiiej]) Massey." The Balfour Estate, which comprises 3000 acres of good land adjoining tho town is owned by Mr. A. J. Balfour, ex-Primo Minister of Great Britain. It was offered to tho Government somo years ago for illl 10s. per acre, and has lately been roolfered at ■something like ,£lB per aero.
