Tho strikers demand that the present Government -shall includio in the agreement ten days' annual holiday leave, apart from tho threo public holidays specified in the Factory and Workshops Bill. Tho demands aro to be referred to tho Federated Trades before their introduction to Parliament. Various claims have been made for higher wages, and overtime for night and Sunday work. Tho immediato demands stipulate that underground work which can lie done on the surfaco should bo made illegal, on the grounds of being injurious to tho health. Tho railway men demand a consolidated system of wages throughout the S'outh African Union; they have specific claims regarding rates, and a permanent inquiry board. The strikers' demand a conference with the authorities, and insist on a reply from the Government by July 23.
