6 Vice-Regai,. His Excellency tho Governor and tho Countess of Liverpool have intimated their intention of being present at the Roj-al Choral Society's performance of "The Creation," at tho Town Hall on August 1. Sir Geo. Clifford, who has been president of the Now Zealand Racing Conference for some seventeen years, was yesterday pressed into accepting ofbco for another term. After his services had been very highly spoken of by several members of tlio conference,. Mr. h. W. Alison. (Auckland) moved: "That this conference desires to record its high appreciation of the long, valuable, and zealous services rendered by Sir Geo, Clifford as president of the conference, and for his able, earnest, and continuous endeavours in promoting and forwarding the best interests of racing in New Zealand." Tho resolution was carried by acclamation. Captain John Gibb, who retired from the Union Company's service, was a through passenger from Sydney to San Francisco by tho Tahiti .yesterday. Mr. A. J. Saunders, M.A., 8.D., of the University of Chicago, who was at 0110 time minister of the Vivian Street Baptist Church, arrived from San Francisco by the Moana on Thursday. Ho is ,wi his way to tho East, having decided to take np educational work at the Amcncan College at Modura, India. Mr. Saunders is proceeding to India under tho direction of tho American Board, the oldest and biggest mission in tho United States. Mr. Frank S. Amsdcn has been appointed accompanist to tho Royal Choral Society, vice Mr. Horace Hunt, resigned. Messrs. G. and J. Blundell, of Wellington, were passengers to San Francisco by the Tahiti yesterday. ■ ' Mr. E. T. Taylor, of Wellington, has just returned from an extended business trip to Anckland. Mr. W. J. Bridson, manager for Messrs.. Briscoe and Co., Ltd., left yesterday on a trip to Sydney. Mr. S. B. Dodgo (borough engineer at To Kuiti) has been appointed borough engineer at Hastings, from 34 applicants. Mr. P. R. Purser (town clork at Lower Hutt for many years) has been appointed to a similar position at Hastings, from five applicants. , Miss Cissio O'Keefe, the Christchurch contralto, and her brother, Mr. Clifford O'Keefe, left for Sydney by tho Willochra yesterday to take np a professional engagement there. Drs. L. H. Dichel, M'KelUr, and Marshall left Wellington by the Tahiti for San Francisco and Island ports 3"esterday. Mr. C. A. Larcombe, Mayor of Patea, who has been on a visit to Wellington on Municipal business, returned to Patea this morning. Mr. A. Cliristenson, chairman of the Patea Harbour Board, and Mr. F. W. Grainger, manager for tlio South iarannki Steam Ship Company, who have been in Wellington in connection with harbour improvement works at Patea, returned to that town this morning.
