Tho Turks have advanced thirty kilometres beyond Enos in tho Midia Bunorhissar district. They wore not opposed. It is officially announced that tho Turks have occupied tho Lulo Burgas station and Bunarhissar, and aro inarching on Kirke Killisseh and Uzunkupru. Aegina, or Aegean) Islands, in return for the warships Re Umberto, Sicilia, Sardegna, and others. [With regard to that, tho articles of tlio Peace Treaty provide, inter alia, that tho Powers will decide tho fate of tlio Aegean Islands, excepting Crete and tho Peninsula of Mount Athos.] (Rfic. July 18, 0.15 a.m.) London, July, 17. Turkey's apparent determination iB to march, to Adrianople. Bulgaria has appealed to tho Powers to confine Turkey's action to tho limits of the Treaty of London, which they promoted and guaranteed. It is understood that tho Powers demur to the statement that a guarantee was given against Turkish, reprisals. Tlio newspapers argue that although Turkey's action violates tho Treaty, it is doubtful whether Bulgaria, after rekindling tho flames of war, lias any legal or moral right to consider the Powers' obligations under that Treaty to bo still intact; on tho other hand, Turkey is warned that sho is taking a rash course in sacrificing the legal position sho secured and held under the Treaty. A Rumanian Note to the Powers disclaims any seeking after new territory beyond tho Turtukaibaltchik strategio frontier. Constantinople, July 17. The Porte ignores the Powers' counsels to moderation, believing Europe will not bo able to effectively intervene. Preparations for a new campaign aro energetically progressing. ■ St. Petersburg, July 17. Russia has warned Servia and Greece that if their claims aro excessive her mediation will bo withdrawn. Tho persistence of such claims will bo likely'to provoke the intervention of tho Powers, for the Powers will not, any more than Russia, allow Bulgaria to be completely .crushed. Belgrade, July 17. Tho Servians have routed the Bulgarians at Joutikamik, near Kustendil, inflicting enormous losses. PAVING THE WAY, FOR PEACE NEGOTIATIONS. (Reo. July 17, 11.20 p.m.) Belgrade, July 17. M. Pasics (Promier of Servia) and M. Venezolos (the Greek Premier) have met at Uskub, and agreed upon all points regarding tho conditions of the proposed armistice. Sofia, July 17. The Bulgarian Government, at the instance of Russia, has agreed that tho Servian frontier shall pass eastward along the River Vardar, leaving lshtib to Servia, The Greek boundary, it .is proposed, will include Seres. (Rcc. July 18, 0.15 a.m.) Sofia, July 17. M. Malcnoff is endeavouring to form a Cabinet representative of all the parties. Tho gravity of the situation engrosses the public. Thero aro indications that many of tho foremost politicians had calculated upon the exhaustion of Austria's patience towards Sorvia's growing claims, also that Russia might intervene. ADVANCE OP RUMANIANS. (Rec. July 17, 11.20 p.m.) ' Bucharest, July 17. King Charles has joined the Rumanian Army at field headquarters. Reuter's Sofia correspondent states that the Rumanians are near Rustchuk and Varna, and that the occupation of Vratza is imminent. The population is fleeing before the, invaders. Many fear, ho states, that the Rumanians will occupy Sofia. "A PICTURE OF HELL." THE FLIGHT FROM SERES. Athens, July 16. An American who escaped on foot from Seres to Salonika, with several thousand other people, .describes the flight from Seres as a picture of hell, with tlio groans of the women and tho cries of the children. The weaker ones, when they dropped, were lifted up and helped along by friends. In the background ther'o was the crackling of rifles and noise of exploding shells. A canopy of 6moko was over tho wholo countryside. It is officially stated that only 120 out of 3000 persons at Doxato survived tho massacre. It is reported that the famous Bulgar, Komitadji Saiulansky, was killed with seventeen followers in an encounter with Servians. [Sandansky was a notorious brigand, whoso many exploits had gained for him t.lio title of "King of the Mountains." For years ho held undisputed sway in tho Seres district. In 1909 ho had a narrow escape from assassination. During the Balkan war he was leader of an irregular band.]
SERES HORRORS VERIFIED. (Rec. July 17, 11.20 p.m.) Athens, .1 uly 17. It is semi-officially stated that of the victims of the Demirhissar massacres, eighty were bayonetted to death. Twentyfour others saved their lives by feigning death. The Austrian and Italian Consuls at Salonika have proceeded to Seres to verify tho reports of the massacres, and were received at the Greek military headquarters by King Constantino. They subsequently declared that they found the catastrophe to be even greater than tliey had previously believed could have been possible. The Greeks have oceupicd Novokop.
