COURT OF APPEAL.
Ihe Court of x\ppeal lvas occupied yesterday in hearing counsel on the subject <h tho admissibility of certain evidence in a case in which ono John Willoughb.v was convicted 'in Christcliurch, in Hay last, on a charge of his having set fire to a house in Tuani Street in that city. At the trial of Willoughb.v the prosecution otiered evidence to the effect that Willoughb.v was seen coining out of the house a little wliilo before the outbreak of ih-e. Counsel for the accused objected to tho admission of tho evidence, and his Honour on the Bench (Mr. Justice Dentiiston) reserved the point for the Court of Appeal. There were oil the Bench yesterday his Honour the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), his Honour Mr. Justice Denniston, his Honour Mr. Justice Edwards, his Honour Mr. Justice Cooper, and his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman. Mr. 11. H. Ostler appeared for the Crown, and Mr. A. T. Donnolly for the appellant. Tho Court reserved its decision.
