PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.
ADVERTISING SUGGESTED. The advantages offered by the Public Trust Office to poor people to get transfers and conveyances prepared whun purchasing lands from the Public Trustee were mentioned in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr. G. Witty, M.P., who-asked the Hon. A. .L. Herdman whether lie would cause the facilities offered by the Public Trust Office to be more generally known. The Minister replied"As stated by the Public Trustee in his report, the class of legal work referred to is not done for the sako of the fee, but solely to quicken the winding-up of the estate and to procure the best possiblo price for the land. It is confined to small sales or to cases where no solicitor is acting for the purchaser. It is not considered necessary to incur expense in advertising these advantages, as the practice is made fully known to all who do business with the offio?" Asked by Mr. Colvin whether he would bring under the notice of local bodies the moderate scale of fees charged by tho Public 'Trustee* in connection with local body loans. Mr. Herdman said that the practice usually followed in this matter —a practice which had obtained for many years in the office—was to inform the local body.of the scale -when application for the loan was made, and it was thus considered by Public Trustee that ample notice .was given. , '
