ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
('JACKING UP" AN ENGINE. SEVERE ACCIDENT. On Monday afternoon, at Pasknkariki, a shocking accident befell a married man named Peter Jackson. It appears that he was working on the railway lint, endeavouring to raise the wheels of an engine by means of a "jack," when the appliance gave way,'and Jackson was struck by portion of the engine. Both thighs were fractured. As soon as pocsibl? the sufferer was removed tc the "Wellington Hospital, where ho now lies in a very critical condition. Late last evening the hospital advised that Jackson had regained consciousness. ANEURISM 4 HEMORRHAGE, The District Coroner (Dr. A. M'Arthur, 8.M.) held an inquest yesterday morning regarding the death of John Smyth, aged 73 years, who died suddenly ,at the residence of tis daughter (Mrs. A. Compton), No. 1 Church Street, on Saturday last. • ' Dr. IC. Fyffe gave evidence as to holding <a post-mortem examination. ,He found that tho cause of death was hemorrhage from an aneurism. Dr. Henry also gave evidence. Tho coroner.returned a verdict in accordance-with medical evidence. SEAMAN INJURED. John Sanders, a seaman oil s.s. Kapiti, ■was admitted to llie Hospital at 1.15 yesterday afternoon suffering from a broken Jog. ' KNOCKED DOWN BY CART.' . At about 7 p.m. last evening a man, 36 jyoara of age, named Hugh M'Kegney, who had arrived from, Ghristchurch, was \knocked down by a tram in Manners Street. He was removed to the public hospital, where it was found-that ho had sustained a severe out on the lioad and a badly-bruised leg. FOUND ON .THE ROAD, i 'A married man named — Murphy, a' -inillwright, 67 years of age, residing at 19 Egmont Street, was admitted to tho . (public hospital at 7.30 last evening- suffering from an injured head. The hospital authorities state that ho was found Uying in Little Taranaki Street. SERVANTS' DINNER & WOMAN'S ACT. ,*( Dannevirke, July 15. 'A married woman named — Heip, tho Jffife of tho manager of Otanga Station, ■walked into a room to-day whilo the Servants were having dinner and drank a quantity of lysol. She is now in the JDannevirko Hospital in a precarious Condition. HORSE PALLS ON RIDER. Invercargill, July 15. A lad named William Crow, aged 15, [while riding a draught horse near Ore•puki on Sunday, met with a serious accident, the horse falling and rolling on Jiim. He was taken to the Riverton Hosjpital, whero ;h-o died this evening.
