SMART SAILING PERFORMANCES. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Auckland, July 14. Smart trips have been accomplished by the Auckland-owned barques Louisa Craig and Eona. The first-named vessel arrived at Auckland shortly after noon yesterday from Newcastle, after a speedy passago of 8 days 20 hours. The Eona left Newcastle for Auckland on Saturday, July 5, and was sighted 14 miles south of Cape Brett by the officers of the Maheno at daybreak, yesterday. The Louisa Craig has held the reputation of being a smart sailer, having some excellent times to Ker credit during the period she has been engaged in the trade between New Zealand and Australia. She participated in an exciting ocean raco some time ago with her sister ship, the Joseph Craig, from New Zealand to llelbourne, when the former vessel was just, beaten after a closely-contested race by a ship's length. On the present voyage she cleared at Newcastle at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and made Capo Maria van Diemen at 9 p.m. on Friday last, thus making the passage from Australia to New Zealand in tlie oreditablo time of seven days five hours, the remainder of the time bting occupied in beating down the coast.
