MYSTERIOUS END OF A MODERN RIP VAN WINKLE, A man vrhoso long periods of sleep caused him to bo known as Rip Van Winkle died in mysterious circumstances on Juno 3 at 'Bakowell, in Derbyshire. Mr. Mann, who was well educated, and liad travelled extensively, -was subject io attacks of catalepsy, a sudden suspension of sensation attended with rigidity of tho limbs. Once, when in America, ho was given up as dead. In April last, whilo lie was walking through Buxton, lie was soisgcil with a similar attack, and was taken to tho workhouse, whero ho remained sleeping for many days, despito every effort to restore him. Recently ho fell again under' tho spell. : He engaged a bedroom for two nights and slept for a week, 110 then set out again—he was of a wandering disposition—and was found asleep by the roadside.' Doctors liavo been puzzled by his case.
