Vice-Reg at,. Their Excellencies the Earl and Countess of Liverpool have intimated tlieir intention of being present at the Savage Club ladies' evening, in the Town Hall, next Saturday evening. Her Excellency Lady Liverpool will attend the concert to bo given in aid of tho funds of tho Moral and Physical Health Society, which is to tako placo at the Y.M.C.A. this evening. His Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool will attend tho Wellington Racing Club's meeting to-morrow and on Saturday next, and will also attend the race 'ball on Thursday evening.
The Hon. R. H. Rhodes will arrive today from Christchurch. Tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, who has lately been ill, is expected to arrive in Wellington to attend Parliament at about the end of tho- week. Mr. Martin Chapman, K.C., who is laid up in a private hospital, is reported to be. making good progress towards recovery. Mr. J. G. Stott, Wellington manager, for the National Bank, has recovered sufficiently to leave tlio hospital for his home at the Hutt. Sir Joseph Ward is expected to arrive in Wellington on July >28. Mi'.i E. H. Clark, M.P., arrived in Wellington on Sunday last. Dr. Hardwicke-Smith, medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, and Mrs. Hardwicke-Smith are passengers for New Zealand by the Itaikoura,' which is due to arrive in Auckland on August 21. Mr. J. W. Hill, officer in charge of,the Government Tourist Bureau in Wellington, who has been relieving at Te Arolia for the past eight weeks, has returned to Wellington. Mr. I'. W. Mansfield, Registrar-General and Chief Electoral Officer for New Zealand, has not been enjoying the best of health for some little time past, and is no>v on leave. Mr. J. W. Salmon, postmaster at Wellington South, and electoral officer for that district, has been gazetted Acting-Deputy Chief Electoral Officer (luring Mr. Mansfield's absence at the Grey by-election. At a meeting of the Thorndon Catliolio parishioners, held on Sunday evening, l reference was made to the early departure from Wellington of Mr. J. W. O'Callaglian, cashier for the Wellington Tramways Department, who has accepted the position of traffic manager to the Napier municipal tramways. It was stated that Mr. O'Callaghan's departure from Thorndon would bo a loss to tho parish, as lie has displayed a lively and practical interest in all its affairs, and Lad particularly interested, himself in the establishment of tho Catholic Education Board, which now controls tho Catholic Schools in Wellington. Tho meeting put on record a resolution expressing its appreciation of Mr. O'Callaghan's services, and wishing him every success in his new sphere of activity. Mrs. Margaret J. H. Crawford, relict of the late James Crawford, of Dunedin, an da pioneer Bottler of Otago, died sc*\iowliat suddonly last night et tho residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Cameron (telepgraphs our Masterton correspondent). Besides ono daughtor, she leaves three sons, Dn Crawford, of Wanganui, Mr. J. M. B. Crawford, of Sumnor, ana Mr. A. G. Crawford, of Mntaura. Her remains uro to be taken to Dunedin for interment. Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, arrives by tho Mararoa from the south this morning. Mr. H. S. Malcolm, for the past 6ix years accountant to the New Zealand Branch of the Royal Exchange Assurance Co., has been promoted to the position of manager for tho corporation at Auckland, and will leave early this month.
