ENGINEERS' DISPUTE.

AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT. An agreement on several points in dispute between tho shipowners and the Australasian Institute of Marino Engineers' Industrial Union of Workers lias been arrived. at by the Conciliation Council. The dispute relates to the "mosquito fleet," and tho assessors recommend that tho terms and conditions agreed to bo embodied in an award. The first clauso deals with tho classification of steamers, whioh is as follows:— Eighty to under 100 n.h.p.: Wainim 85, Pctone BG, Opawa 02; 00 to under 80 n.h.p.: Gertie 64.8, Breeze 61, Alexander 07, Kairafci 78, Ripple 71, Putiki 62.5; 40 to under GO n.h.p.: Kennedy 41, Nikau 42, Himitangi 45, Stormbird 45, Kahu 45, Ivnitoa 49.76, Squall 44, ATapawa 50, Storm 56.2, John 45, Ivapiti 40; 20 to under 40 n.h.p.; Wakatu 24.8, Iluia 24.3, Ruru 30, Manaroa 25, Blenheim 30.76, Wavorley 20.7, Mann 24, Hohndale 20.5, Queen of the South 35, Wair.au 21, Kapuni 32, Hawera 35, Moa 35, Wootton 25, Defender 25, Mangapapa 30.76, Tainui 25, Kiripaka 25; under 20 n.h.p.: Opawa 18, Aorero 18, Tho n.h.p. of any vessel not provided for or any alterations required on tho above schedule to bo agreed upon between a representative appointed by the employer 'or employers concerned and a representative of the Wellington branch of the Institute of Marine' Engineers. The wages to bo paid to engineers per calendar month shall be: Chief engineers— under 20 n.h.p. ,£2l, from 20 to under 40 n.h.p. .£22 10s., from 40 to 60 n.h.p. £22 10s., from GO to 80 n.h.p. i£23, from 80 to 100 n.h.p. .£23 10s.; 6eoond engineers, JU7 10s; third engineers, .£ls 10s. This scale does not prescribe tho number of cngineors to bo carried by any steamer. Tho agreement will apply to vessels 'trading in the extended river limits, and shall extend from April 1, 1913, till April 1, 1916. Clauses as to holidays, victualling allowance, and transit have also been agreed upon. A full agreement has not been arrived at by the Conciliation Council, but the case will not go bofore tho Arbitration Court, unless some of the clauses are objected to. Tho agreement has been filed with th» local Registrar of tho Arbitration Court.
