At tlie Tolice Court to-day Joseph Nathan and Co., of Wellington, were charged by the Collector of Customs with failing to make returns of exports within the prescribed time (sis days). Defendant shipped 99 cases 'of cheese at Auckland for transhipment to the Ruahine at Wellington; Tho Ruahine left New Zealand on April 3, but ndvico of the of the shipment was not received by the Customs till 31 days after tho prescribed time and after the Department had twice written to defendants for the return. Defendants were not represented. It was stated that they admitted the offence and a letter to this effect was produced. The usual excuse I see," commented the_ magistrate. , "blame the unfortunate ]umor clerk." A fine of J35 and' costs was imposed. HASTINGS FANCIERS' SHOW. Hastings, July 11.
