FIGHTING THE BEEF TRUST. By Telegraph—Presa Association—Copyright Sydney, July 11. Mr, B. R. Wise, K.C., has returned from a visit to England. He says the people there are looking to Australia to prevent th'e Amerioan Beof Trust from forcing the price of meat up to a standard prohibitive to the poor. If tho'Trust oaptured Australia, the prices of meat at the Smithfield market could be fixed day by day. Six men were controlling the Trust. No wonder far-sighted mem were looking to Australia to keep open competition, whioh was the only safeguard the English poor had against prices which bring them- near starvation. • Mr. B. R. Wise was State /AttorneyGeneral in the Porkes, Lyne, and Lee Governments, and a leading Federalist, who represented his State in the National Convention which framed the Commonwealth Constitution. He is' author of "Industrial Freedom," and various magazine artioles on Australian politics. He is an advocate af preferential trade.
