OTAGO CAPPING CEREMONY.
CHANCELLOR & STUDENTS. (By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.) Dunedin, July 11. - Tho capping 'ceremony in connection with tho Otago "University was hold this afternoon. Sir Kobert Stout, Chancellor of tho Now Zealand University, presided, and thero was a largo attendance. Tho only speaker was Sir Robert Stout, whoso 6peech consisted largely of a rejily to those who desiro reform in regard to University examinations. As soon as tho Chancellor began his speech there was a great rustling of paper, and a glaneo towards tho .roar of tho halt showed that two-thirds of tlio students wcro hidden behind newspapers, which they ostentatiouslv consulted, ana rustled, evidently with tlio object of making it pdnin that they ignored what was being said, and of creating a disturbance calculated to provo disconcerting to the speaker. After ft brief pause tho Chancellor proceeded with his speech, but, era long, the interruption (which was, however, novor very boisterous) again caused him to halt, and inform tho under' 1 graduates that, if there was naothor iiK terruption, he would adjourn tho meeting, Tlio interruption, was renewed a few minutes later, whereupon the Chnncello* said that ho was not in tho habit of threatening what lie did not intend to pei'forin, but, if thero was further ho would certainly adjourn the meeting. The students oroke out again, however, with shouts of "Hero wo «ro again," bui order was quietly restored. After thai) thoro was a .succession of mild storms' and calms until tho Chancellor repeated .his warning for tho tliird time; From that on, matters pretty quiot, with' the exception of occasional snores.
