CIVIC AFFAIRS.
At last night's meeting .of the City Council, the Mayor (Mr. J.; P. Luke) presided. There wero also present:— Councillors. E. Fletcher, J. E. Fitzgerald, T. C. A. Hislop, A. H. Hindmarsh, E. A. Wright, M. M. F. Luckie, E. Tregoar, Jno. Fuller, jun., L. M'Ken'zie, W. J. Thompson, A. E. Atkinson,. H. Buddie, G. Frost, W. H. P. Barber, and Jas. Godber. .The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board offered to provido a bed at tho General Hospital for tramway employees for a . lump sum of .£SOO and a yearly payment of ,£SO. It was decided, to tako no action at present. The Miramar Borough Council wrote Btating that it was not satisfied with the existing arrangement under 'which the city cans are run over the borough lines, nnd. asking that tlio Tramways Board of Management he authorised to go into the matter with them. It was decided to request the Miramar Council to placo tho matter before the Tramway Committee, cither by way of deputation or in writing, when tho question will receive every consideration. New street lamps were authorised for. the following localities:—Grafton Road, Roseneath, Vi aitoa Eoad, Kotinga Street. South Kilhirnie, Naugliton Terrace, Lyau Bay Parado, Hawker Street, Girton Terrace (off Adelaido Eoad), Taranaki Street,' Tory Street, Martin Street, Webb Street. The lamps in Taranaki and Tory Streets will all be 100 candle-power each. Applications were refused for lamps in Haughton Bay Road, Buckley Road, Kainui Road (Hataitai), and Florcnco Street (Wellington South).
