SUNDAY ORGAN RECITALS.

TO BE CONTINUED, Considerable discussion was raised at : the City Council last night on tho question of Sunday organ Tec-itals. Last Sunday Dr. Fyffe pave a trial reoital in the Town Hall, winch was well attended, and since then he has repeated his offer to conduct tho recitals until the arrival of the new city organist (Mr. B. P. Page).A letter was received by tho council last night from the Jliniste.rs' Association to the effect that tho association viewed with regret the proposals to liavo organ recitals in tho Town Hall on Sunday afternoons, and asked tho council to reoonsider tho pro-posnl, witli a new to fixing a time for tho'recitals which would not clash with tho noblo and self-denying work of the various Sunday schools. Many of those who had supported recitals on a Saturday evening were so engaged in Christian work on Sunday afternoons that they would bo deprived of tho pleasure which the recitals afforded. Councillor Buddie was in favour of tho recitals being continued. Ho understood that tho Town Clerk had written to Dr. Fyffo stntiug that tho Sunday recitals were to be discontinued. The Mayor explained that the letter was sent on his authority, and tfas to tho effect that ho and other councillors were of opinion that the recitals should he discontinued until "the - new.'organist arrived. *> Councillor Buddie did not see how the churches could bo affeotwl. Ho moved: "That Dr. Pyffo's offeir to conduct organ recitals on each Sunday afternoon until the arrival of the new organist'bo accepted, and that a Teply be sent to the Ministers' Association' that tho oouncil regrets it oannot accedo to their request.*" Councillor Fuller seconded tho , proposal. Tho fact that the trial recital had been attended by about a thousand people showed how they wero going ,to be appreciated. Ho believed- that the recital would do its Christian work just tho same as Christian work would bo done in other parts of the city. After considerable discussion* the motion to continue the recitals wasicarried.
